SAFETY & WELLNESS

CONCUSSION STATEMENT & PROTOCOL

PTYFL believes the safety of our young athletes is paramount to our League and supersedes any goals of competition on the field. We utilize the standards established in the USA Football Concussion Recognition & Response protocol along with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Heads Up to Youth Sports initiative to educate our coaches, parents and young athletes. We require our participating organizations to embrace the same philosophy and multi-tier approach to athlete safety and ensure all coaches are USA Football-certified.

PROPER EQUIPMENT

The safety of our athletes begin with the use of proper, age appropriate equipment and the PTYFL has selected Riddell as our partner in assessing our current equipment needs and providing the most current, industry leading helmets and shoulder pads.

PROPER FITTING

Often overlooked in the selection of a proper helmet is the “fitting process” to ensure each athlete is utilizing a helmet that provides optimal protection and performance. Our partnership with Riddell enables our participating organizations access to a designated representative to assist our coaches with the proper identification and customization of protective gear.

PROPER TEACHING/TECHNIQUE

The third tier in our safety program is the required use of USA Football’s Heads Up Football® protocol. Heads Up Football® is a comprehensive program developed by USA Football to advance player safety in the game of football. Our League has embraced this teaching/coaching methodology and will require that ALL of our organizations ensure they are implementing Heads Up Football® techniques and coaches are certified.
